Recipe: Crab Filled Avocado Tapas

Tapas. This food is the star of Spain’s nightlife. The way that Spaniards eat and drink are very busy and is simply an overload in flavors. I personally don’t know what tapas are before and how you are supposed to eat it. In some places or countries, tapas are this little snacks somewhat like an appetizer for the meal. But tapas are more like a tradition, a way of living in Spain. Basically, tapas are small portions of food that is served together with your drinks in the bar. You can also order big servings of tapas which are called Raciones.

The way you eat tapas simply by ordering a drink in a bar. You want to have small portions of different kinds of food. You want to taste more flavors than having large portions of food. If you will see how Spaniards do this, they usually go bar hopping for different drinks and also different tapas! It is more like a food tripping experience that you would really enjoy. It is food+drinks+busy people=fun! But hey, why are we talking so much about tapas here? Well, we will try to make a healthy, easy and flavorful tapa dish that you can enjoy with drinks of just by itself. In little portions or for lunch. I’m getting excited so let’s get on it!

Tapas in Spain are if not dominated will always include seafood. And so we are using some flavorful crabmeat for our tapas. Together with that is some avocados. There are tons of ways you can serve this and I will share with you 2 ways to do it. In preparing this dish, you need some ripe, beautiful avocados, some cooked crabmeat, and some spicy dressing.

Choosing ripe avocados can be a little tricky because this fruits can be ripe at one moment and just inedible the next. You also want to have fresh crabs or frozen crabmeat with the best quality. Crabmeat can cause allergic reactions or food poisoning if not freshly prepared so be sure to look in it. For the dressing, I prefer to have it spicy with mayo, sriracha and some lemon juice. I think that the flavors suit the crab and the avocado pretty well. All you need to do is mix the ingredients to create a delicious and simple crab salad to go with your avocados.

Presenting your tapas is another thing that you should consider. Tapas are not a feat of the stomach, but also a feast for the eye and so you want it presentable. To prepare and present the dish, you can either make it as a roll, sushi style with the crab meat as the filling and the avocado as the outer cover of the roll. I think that this way is very presentable but requires more precise preparation but it is totally worth it. Another way is by putting the avocados and crabmeat salad in a stacked over some flat bread toasted with some butter or olive oil. You can also just fill the avocado halves and make amazing crab filled avocado tapas with the prepared dressing and you’re good to go!

You can serve this tapa recipe as a snack, with some drinks or a simple light lunch or dinner! Enjoy and have fun making this recipe!
